I don't know if it will work, but I'm hoping it will. It's like writing a five novel series, you don't always know how it ends in chapter three. :)

Thank you.

D. I never know what to post but I feel good about the current framework and (hope) that I won't feel the need to start over as I did the last few times. Plus, working in C# is so much easier than TypeScript, even if I have to use Windows (this runs on Linux too, thanks to Mono).

D. That is very encouraging. I wasn't going to change it, but I needed to explain why I wasn't going to change it because the first thing I hear when someone reads the novel is the names. I suspect that is why most people stop after chapter one (I have the first seven chapters up on its site).

But, thank you again, you've made my day.

D. Drizzt Do'Urden and his panther, Guenhwyvar, both disagree. The length of the name might be what makes it hard on people, but I wouldn't change it just to make it something more "English". Something that I liked about your blurb (er, coming here via Reddit, btw) was the fact that the names *weren't* "usual" - it puts me instantly in a different setting. I'm kinda sick of stories about Jacks and Arthurs. Carry on!! :)

Re: Choosing between two Sand and Blood covers

I like the first ones picture but the second ones text.

Re: Choosing between two Sand and Blood covers

Thank you! One of the things about covers is that they can be changed over time, but almost everyone is preferring the red one (at least in arrangement, composition, font, etc). I greatly appreciate your opinions.

D. How about trying it with the color of the yellow sky?

The second cover is clearer in the image, being its closer to the character, but the text isn't as attractive.

Re: Swears, Epitaphs, and Insults

Yeah, I like "Sands!" too. I like consensus, which is one reason I ask for so many opinions.

I'm learning to let go, though. I'm not trying to make everyone happy with my writing, but I am using beta readers to find the obvious holes in the plot and characterizations. I figured, that's a good thing while I'm waiting for my scheduled session with the editor (end of May).

Thank you.

D. I also don't have the raw talent at this moment, so I'm going to use it as an excuse to learn it (mainly because I've wanted to get better at drawing and painting for years now) and get the skill.

One approach is that I do the cover, let it settle for a while, and then if it really isn't working, find a new artist to do it and see if that works better. My first novel, MG, has had two official covers (one from the publisher and the one I commissioned). It isn't too big of a deal to change, more so if it doesn't sell well.

I guess, in the end, I'd rather make a mistake and be proud of it. *And* then be strong enough to move on. :)

Thank you.

D. I've found in my experience that it's best to trust good artists and stick with covers and titles that are more like others in the genre of the book you're publishing. There's a certain expectation. The average reader does judge a book by the cover, so the cover must appeal to *them*.

Btw, I just recently became aware that Blood and Sand is the subtitle of a Prince of Persia game, but that doesn't mean you can't use Sand and Blood for your title.

I'm looking forward to a cover reveal to see what you decide to do.
